Undefeated Hamstel Heroes

The Hamstel Boys football team took part in the Key Stage 1 football tournament at Len Forge on Friday 3rd February. The 9 strong squad were excited to test their skills against 8 other schools from Southend. The first game was against Fairways and after a dominate performance it finished 0-0 with the team not being able to make the breakthrough. After a quick team talk from Mr Sayer and Mrs Walker the team were ready to go against Edwards Hall. The boys worked hard and managed to make the most of their chances with Ralphie pouncing to score 2 goals, giving the team a comfortable 2-0 win. The third game was against West Leigh; the game was tight but Daniel managed to score a beautiful goal hitting the top corner giving the team the lead. In the last seconds, West Leigh hit a hopeful shot which just evaded our keeper meaning the game ended 1-1.

St Michaels were next up for Team Hamstel and it was another strong performance, but the ball wouldn’t hit the net so it finished 0-0.

After 4 games the team remained unbeaten and had only conceded 1 goal, but knew that if they hoped to progress to the finals they had to get some more wins! It started well against Earls Hall with Noah and Daniel scoring and another solid defensive display from Oliver and Zakk sealing a 2-0 win. Bournemouth Park were waiting for us in the sixth game of the day. There was no holding Noah back in this game, scoring twice having been set up well by the strong team play behind him, to give Team Hamstel another 2-0 victory. Two games remained and Daniel not wanting to be out done by his team mate in the previous game scored twice to complete a 2-0 win against Greenways. The final game was Alleyn Court and Daniel couldn’t help but score another goal. Zakk who had been part of the fantastic team defence stepped forward and scored a great goal to end the game 2-0 to Hamstel. Special mentions go to the goal keepers Lincoln, Charlie, Logan and Harry who only conceded 1 goal across 8 games!

The team had been fantastic and had played some super football but they didn’t know if they had done enough to qualify for the finals. When Mr Edwards read out the results they were ecstatic to finish in second place overall and had managed to qualify for the finals.

Well done Team Hamstel, Oliver, Zakk, Daniel, Harry, Logan, Lincoln, Noah, Charlie and Ralphie you represented the school brilliantly! Bring on the finals!
