At Hamstel Infant School and Nursery we aim to ensure a positive and healthy, physical and mental outlook for all the children. We help them to develop their fundamental and teamwork skills ready for KS2 and their future. Through a varied curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities, we aim to develop a lifelong love of physical activity, sport and P.E. for all children. Our P.E. curriculum follows the Complete P.E. scheme, this allows a clear focus on the development of agility, balance and co-ordination, healthy competition and co-operative learning.

In EYFS the children are given opportunities to progress their Physical Development through the use of the outside environment. The children have the chance to explore different equipment to challenge themselves and improve their core strength and gross motor skills. Alongside this, Reception children have regular P.E. lessons where they are taught skills with explicit time to practise and apply their physical development in fun and engaging ways.

In KS1, children have weekly P.E. and Swimming lessons that build skills progressively. Our lessons ensure that all children are challenged and taught basic skills that are then implemented into a variety of sports. The children have the chance to apply what they have learnt and teaches them to how to compete fairly. The element of competition is important for children to learn how to respond to both success and disappointment in a supportive environment.
