At Hamstel Infant and Nursery School we recognise the importance of the English curriculum and how it will prepare all children to lead an enriched and fulfilled life by teaching them the skills they need to communicate effectively and confidently with others, through both the spoken and written word. We aim to promote a life-long love of Reading through widespread Reading for Pleasure. Embedded skills in reading, writing and spoken language will enable our children to be more successful across the curriculum, while enriching their lives beyond school. The teaching and learning of all areas of English is given high priority in our school, both within English and Phonics lessons and across all subjects.

We aspire to deliver our English curriculum through our thematic approach and high quality books which will allow the children plenty of opportunities to practice their skills and apply them to all areas of learning.
