At Hamstel Infant School and Nursery, we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world.  We seek to inspire pupils’ curiosity and aim for every child to view themselves as a successful ‘geographer’ who harbours an excitement to explore. We intend to provide a broad and balanced Geography curriculum that immerses pupils in learning that is memorable, engaging and meaningful.

The knowledge and skills of the Geography curriculum are carefully mapped out across the school and delivered through termly themes, which are sequentially planned. This ensures the progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills. Cross-curricular opportunities are identified, mapped and planned to ensure contextual relevance and progression. We aim to ensure children are encouraged to develop an appreciation and understanding of the lives, experiences and actions of people living around the world. We strive to enrich every child’s learning by providing a range of opportunities and experiences outside the classroom. This will allow them to enhance their knowledge by visiting places they may not normally consider places of geographical interest and conducting geographical surveys within the local area and at the same time being able to develop their immediate locational awareness.
