Team Hamstel delivered an outstanding performance at the KS1 Dodgeball Tournament held at Garons Sport Centre. The children had been working incredibly hard in the weeks leading up to the event, even giving up part of their lunchtime to practise and learn the game. With eighteen schools taking part, the competition was always going to be exceptionally tough. Each match was played as the best of three games, with every game lasting two minutes. The team with the most players left at the end won the game and two game wins were needed for victory.
Team Hamstel began in superb style against Greenways. With excellent dodging from Gracie, Ellis and Summer and some expert, well-judged throws from Hermione, Luke and Archie, the team eliminated their opponents in two straight games to take a magnificent first win.
The next match against Porters Grange was unfortunately less fortunate. Despite some spirited effort, several throws narrowly missed their mark and the team slipped to a two to nil defeat.
Against Fairways, the team showed tremendous determination, correcting earlier errors and displaying exceptional teamwork. Brilliant shots from Romeo and Alfie helped secure a well-deserved two to one victory.
Earls Hall proved to be a formidable challenge. Team Hamstel won the first game with confidence but Earls Hall fought back. The deciding game was incredibly close and Team Hamstel were defeated by the narrowest of margins with just one more player remaining on the opposing side.
The match against Thorpedene brought another thrilling moment, with Alfie making a superb catch in the final game to bring a teammate back into play. This pivotal moment turned the tide and Team Hamstel secured a two to one win.
St Marys were another challenging opponent. In a very tight and hard fought match, Team Hamstel were incredibly unlucky to lose two to one with several extremely close calls.
Temple Sutton followed and Team Hamstel delivered one of their strongest performances of the day. Confident throwing and exceptional dodging meant they avoided eliminations and claimed a well-earned two to nil victory.
The final match was against West Leigh. By this point the team were beginning to tire after their tremendous efforts throughout the day. Despite their best attempts and some very near catches, West Leigh took the win by two games to nil.
With four wins and four losses, Team Hamstel performed superbly, showing remarkable teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship. They narrowly missed out on a semi-final place and the fact that Earls Hall and St Marys, both of whom they almost defeated, went on to finish first and third shows just how exceptional their performance truly was.
A huge well done to Ellis, Gracie, Hermione, Archie, Luke, Summer, Romeo and Alfie. You represented Team Hamstel with pride, determination and outstanding effort.
