What a fantastic start to the cross-country season for our KS1 runners! After giving up their lunchtimes to train and prepare, Team Hamstel were ready to take on the challenge of their very first event of the year. With over 100 competitors in each race, it was always going to be a test of determination, but our runners showed outstanding resilience, team spirit and talent throughout.

The Year 1 girls got us underway in style with a sensational team performance – our best scoring race of the day! Savannah led the way in an incredible 13th place, closely followed by Myla-Mae (14th) and Florence (17th). Sienna (23rd), Ayla (27th) and Willow (28th) all produced brilliant runs to place tightly together in the top third of the field. A phenomenal team effort!

The boys battled superbly, with Luca storming home in 9th place – a top ten finish! Beau (23rd), Isaac (34th), Leo (35th) and Coby (39th) packed in well to bring the team great results. Jack, unfortunately, was tripped at the start and took a bump to the head, meaning he couldn’t continue, but we know he’ll bounce back stronger next time. The Year 2 girls were simply outstanding. Hannah-Lee powered her way to a magnificent 4th place, narrowly missing out on the podium but showing incredible grit. Olivia (14th), Ruby (22nd) and Luella (35th) all ran superbly – with Ruby and Luella showing unbelievable determination after both fell at the start but picked themselves up to charge past so many runners. Hermione (36th) and Isla (59th) also gave it everything to complete a truly gutsy team performance.

Our Year 2 boys showed brilliant heart and effort. Romeo ran strongly to finish 22nd, with Luke (32nd) and Alfie (33rd) close behind. Ellis (47th) also had a terrific run. Ollie bravely gave it his all but, after a flying start, struggled to catch his breath and still pushed through to complete the race in 97th – a great display of perseverance. Archie looked very strong but unfortunately couldn’t finish this time.

Every single runner should feel immensely proud of their efforts. Team Hamstel displayed courage, commitment and enthusiasm from start to finish – setting the tone for an exciting year ahead. With such brilliant results in the very first event, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.

Well done, Team Hamstel – you were amazing!
