The children have enjoyed a variety of Science experiments and activities designed to develop their skills of scientific enquiry. They have been encouraged to make predictions about what might happen and then observe closely to discover what actually happens, finding out about simple scientific processes in a fun, practical way. The Year 2 children:-
saw ‘walking water’ which demonstrated how plants access water
explored how air pressure works using a hairdryer and ping pong ball
discovered what happens when two substances react when making their own ‘erupting volcano’
found out about the different components of milk through a ‘magic’ experiment
worked out how to complete electrical circuits to light the bulbs.
The Year 1 children:-
extended their understanding of floating and sinking by finding ways to make asinking object float and a floating object sink.
discovered what happens when two substances react when making some ‘sudsy eruptions’
created their own ‘lava lamp’, further developing the concept of floating and sinkingwith the combination of two substances
learned about air thrust when making their own air balloon rockets
used their senses when taking part in a Wildlife Area scavenger hunt
The Reception children:-
watched the changes as their Skittles dissolved
explored the concept of floating and sinking
combined substances to make their raisins ‘dance’
enjoyed watching the reaction when adding the final ingredient to their ‘monster’s tea party’
discovered that bubbles are always the same shape however they are blown
used their senses when taking part in a Wildlife Area scavenger hunt
