At Hamstel Infant and Nursery School we want pupils to be MASTERS of technology. We aim to prepare our learners for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for an ever changing digital world. We want children to become autonomous, independent users of technologies, gaining confidence and enjoyment from their activities. Not only do we want them to be digitally literate and competent users of technology but through our lessons we want them to develop creativity, resilience and critical thinking skills and to become responsible digital citizens.

In our school we use the ‘Teach Computing’ scheme which focusses on a progression of skills in computer science, information technology, digital literacy and online safety. Lessons

support our pupils in the acquisition of knowledge, through the use of key concepts, terms, and vocabulary, providing opportunities to build a shared and consistent understanding. Our pupils are given experiences that allow them to ‘unplug, unpack and repack’ their subject knowledge. Children are taught new concepts by unpacking complex terms and ideas, given time to explore these ideas in unplugged activities and finally spend time repacking this new understanding to build confident learners. These strands are revisited repeatedly through a range of discreet computing lessons, while also allowing opportunities for cross curricular learning to engage children and enrich their experiences.
