Key Instant Recall Facts are an important part of boosting mental arithmetic for all children. We believe that these key facts should be able to be recalled instantly and underpin future progression.  The children are assessed half termly to track their progress.

Maths in EYFS

It is vitally important that our children have the opportunity to experience Maths in a range of contexts, including play-based learning that allows them to explore their own interests. Adult directed learning is used to teach new knowledge and skills to the children, whilst giving the opportunity to practise this new learning with the support of an adult. By the end of the year, our children should be able to count confidently, develop a deep understanding of the numbers to 10; including the relationships between them and the patterns within. Along with Mastering Number, Children also take part in daily Maths Meetings where they recap previously taught skills and focus on building shape, space and measure knowledge.

Maths in KS1

We use Maths No Problem to plan and structure Maths lessons. The children begin every lesson with a problem solving task and are encouraged to work collaboratively using a variety of resources to solve the current problem. The children are encouraged to think about their learning and talk to both peers and adults about what they are learning. Teachers model using the correct mathematical vocabulary and show the variety of methods that underpin the structure of the lesson. The children then have an opportunity to further explore and solve independent tasks.
