Science Week - June 2019

The children have enjoyed a variety of Science experiments and activities designed to develop their skills of scientific enquiry. They have been encouraged to make predictions about what might happen and then observe closely to discover what actually happens, finding out about simple scientific processes in a fun, practical way. The Year 2 children:- saw ‘walking water’ which demonstrated how plants access water explored how air pressure works using a hairdryer and ping pong ball discovered what happens when two substances react when making their own ‘erupting volcano’ found out about the different components of milk through a ‘magic’ experiment worked out how to complete electrical ci

Lego Robotics Day

Our More Able Mathematicians in Year 2 enjoyed an amazing day on Thursday 27th June when Nick from JuniorSTEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) came to visit us and carry out some fantastic Lego Robotics workshops. The children had a great time developing a range of skills linked to ‘engineering’. Through using Lego and writing algorithms with the Lego software blocks app the children had exploration time to build their own simple spinning machine, then they followed some steps to build a Fairground Ride. Once they had developed some of their algorithms, they then applied their learnt skills to build a Roaring Lion and program a motion sensor. Throughout the day they had
